Thank you for your interest in using flinc. We would like to make mobility more flexible, greener and cheaper, together with you.
The target of the development of flinc was to collect as few data as possible and at the same time to develop a service that makes ride sharing as easy as never before. This was a huge challenge, as we can only offer special features (i.e. the arrangement of partial rides or the ride arrangement directly by your navigation system) by collecting special data.
We kept the initial data collection at the registration for the flinc portal as simple as possible (please view the section “registration”). After the registration you can complete your profile voluntarily in the internal section “My flinc”. You can also define in the section “privacy settings” which data is visible for other users.
The more information you volunteer (real name, photo), the more confidence other users will have in your profile. This will increase your chances to receive ride offers and passengers requests.
In general, we always adhere the following basic principles:
There is one exception that concerns your e-mail address that you entered with the registration: In order to fully concentrate on the technical development of flinc and other services, for our support we are using the established software by a third-party supplier (Zendesk) that stores your e-mail address in the USA. You will find more information in the section “support and feedback”. We are also using – if required – the supplier SendGrid for our newsletters and notifications (and the supplier Twilio for SMS messaging), who will receive the e-mail addresses (or mobile phone numbers) of the users that are to be contacted for each single process.
As the ECJ has rejected the data protection agreement Safe Harbour with USA, personal data cannot be transferred to companies located in the USA while at the same time ensuring the EU data protection standard. flinc only transfers data mentioned above to companies located in the USA. To prevent this, unfortunately you will currently have to do without our newsletters and notifications via e-mail or SMS and you cannot (actively) use our support forum.
You have to submit the following data in order to start using flinc:
Please make sure that you are choosing a safe password. Your e-mail address and your password will never be visible for other users.
We will use your e-mail address to send you notifications. For example, if you receive a ride offer or if we find a passenger for you. In the “user settings you can define what kind of notifications you would like to receive. If you unsubscribe from newsletters and notifications, your e-mail address will not be submitted to SendGrid.
We are using your first and last name to make flinc more personal. Please enter your correct information in order to build trust in other drivers and passengers.
We are also saving the date of your registration and show this date in your profile “member since May 2011”.
Once registered, you can complete your profile with the following data:
If you enter your date of birth, other users can see your age. We use your residence to show you other flinc users in your area.
We recommend that you provide a phone number, as your driver or passenger might need to reach you for any important arrangements. Your phone number is only visible for the participating driver or passenger during the ride arrangement. To make your profile more personal, you can also upload an avatar which is visible for other flinc users. Your photo will create trust and increase the probability of a ride arrangement.
If you enter a ride offer, we will save the following data:
Your route is used to find passengers who want to travel a similar route. More about the data that is stored when you are entering a route, please read the section “routes”. The price setting is used to calculate the fare for the passenger.
If you are using the flinc integration in a navigation system (in addition to the flinc website and the flinc app), we will also collect and save the following data:
The navigation system sends every 30-90 seconds your current position in the form of geo-coordinates to the flinc server. We need your location, as we do not want to suggest any passengers to you that you already passed by. We save your already covered distance by using the positions that are transferred by the navigation system, in order to carry out an accurate detour and price calculation for the ride and to show you statistics after the ride.
Once you have actively confirmed a passenger, he will see your last position and can estimate the time of your arrival at the pick-up location. You can deactivate this function in your settings anytime.
The use of a navigation system with flinc integration allows you to get requests from passengers during a trip. The use is voluntary and optional. To find rides automatically, you can also use the flinc website or the flinc app. If you do not want the flinc server to store your current position, we ask you to refrain from using the navigation system with flinc integration.
If you enter a ride search, we will save the following data:

There is a route for each ride offer or ride search. A route always includes the following data:
Routes are the basis of the flinc algorithm and are used o find the right driver and passenger combinations.
We show your routes, similar to existing ride sharing portals, also unregistered users. However, your address will be falsified and your name is not fully visible. In the privacy settings you can choose which of your information will be visible for non-registered users. We will statistically evaluate route data anonymously. For example, to indicate you how wide flinc is spread in your region.
While you are using flinc, we collect the following statistics, which we also show in your profile:
You can adjust the visibility of your statistics in the user settings.
You can also enter your vehicle details (manufacturer, model, color, license number), as your passengers will be able to identify your car much better. Your license number is only visible for accepted passengers, in order to identify your car at the meeting point more easily.
We will inform you from time to time by e-mail updates on important product changes or new features. In addition, we will send you regular status e-mails in which we will present to you personal statistics, so that you can use flinc more effectively.
If you do not want to receive our regular status e-mails, please follow the instructions in the user settings to unsubscribe.
In order to provide the best possible support, we are using the “Zendesk” software. Zendesk will save your e-mail address and your request on web servers in the USA. This will apply in the event that you write an article in the forum, give us feedback (i.e. in the flinc apps) and if you send us an e-mail to email@example.com.
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address truncated by the last octet prior to its storage using the “_anonymizeIp()” method) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.
You can opt-out from being tracked by Google Analytics with effect for the future by downloading and installing Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on for your current web browser: http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
For statistical evaluations this website uses the Analytics functions for reports on impressions in the Google Display network, integration of the DoubleClick Campaign Manager and Google Analytics reports on performance according to demographic characteristics and interests. You can deactivate Google Analytics for display advertising and adjust the advertisements in the Google Display network. To do so, access the advertisement settings via https://www.google.de/settings/ads.
We also use data and visitor data of third-party providers obtained by Google through interest-based advertising (e.g. age, gender and interests) in Google Analytics for statistical evaluations.
We are using Facebook plug-ins on some web pages. Facebook is being operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA.
If you access a web page that contains such a plug-in, your browser will directly connect with the Facebook servers. Unfortunately, we do not have any influence on the amount of data that Facebook is collecting with this plug-in.
By using these plug-ins, Facebook will receive the information about your access to our website. Even if you are not a member of Facebook, there is a possibility that Facebook will find out and save your IP address.
You can block the Facebook plug-ins by using browser add-ons, for example ”Facebook Blocker“ for Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
We also offer the possibility to deactivate all Facebook scripts at flinc in the privacy settings. You can also hide your account in lists.
You may request information about your saved data according to the Data Protection Act (free of charge).
